The St. Regis Time Machine
Butler Stories by Maya Beus for St. Regis
“This is how we achieve time travel in the Eternal City, by entering one of Rome’s first elevators, designed in 1894 and still functioning as a small but perfectly formed ‘rising room’. The intimacy of the space, and the opulence of the décor, make it feel like a jewellery box for people. An experience always treasured by our guests.”
A.Nother Junior Butler
Be transported back in time
The historic elevator of The St. Regis Rome was built in 1894 and registered as the 13th modern elevator of the era in the Eternal City.
At the beginning, it worked with a water pump system from the nearby Moses fountain, also known as "Fontana dell'acqua felice". Today, it no longer needs the water pump but is still fully functional and will bring you to any desired floor - a true St. Regis time machine.
