“I Can't live without champagne. In Victory, I deserve it. In defeat, I need it.” Napoleon Bonaparte
Butler Stories by Maya Beus for St. Regis
“Napoleon Bonaparte’s Hussars were accustomed to opening bottles of champagne with their sabres. Such a spectacular coup de grâce for the bottle neck takes nerve, skill and a very chilled bottle. In this way, consolation and celebration have both been elevated to higher planes every evening at the St. Regis Rome since 1894.”
An Evening Ritual
"To celebrate the ending of the day, St. Regis has chosen the most spectacular of all ways to serve a bottle of sparkling. Like Napoleon used to saber champagne as "in victory one deserves it - in defeat one needs it" we take this ritual into our evening celebration and made it a St. Regis tradition.
That's why we are waiting for you to join us every evening at 7pm in front of our grand piano to celebrate the beginning of the night with us - and a glass of champagne. Cheers!"
